Langus Riverfront Park is located in Everett, Wa on Smith Island. If you look out across the slough that runs between Smith Island and the mainland you will notice old pilings that once held one of the Everett’s many mills during the days when lumber was king. The park was formed in 1988 and named after William Langus, a long serving councilman and community volunteer.
The Rowing Association is also housed at this park. If you’ve never rowed before, not a problem. You can sign -up for a one day introduction class to see if it’s something you might be interesting in participating in. They have a lot of interesting rowing activities and it’s worth checking out if your looking for a new sport.
In 1988 the Women’s Olympic team used the then brand new Langus Riverfront Park to launch their boats and they used the sloughs and rivers to practice for the Seoul Olympics. If your interested in joining the Rowing Association check out their website our their youtube featured below.
The Everett Animal Shelter is located across the street from the boat launch. Visit the puppies, bunnies, and kitties at the shelter. You might even find a new furry friend to bring home. If you don’t want the responsibility of a pet, consider volunteer. You can attend a one day training and become a shelter volunteer. On my visit I wanted to take them all home. They all looked pretty lonesome. So many wonderful animals that deserve loving homes.
The park has a dock, boat launch, covered picnic area, and a walking trail that run along the river. If you follow the walking trail it will take you to another more remote park. Spencer Island is a park that deserves a post all its own, so we will leave that one for a later time.
