This park is full of childhood memories for me. My parents brought us here each year for a picnic. It’s a stunning park. Whether you visit during a rain shower or a sunny day this park is stunning. There are many wonderful places to enjoy a picnic both covered and out in the open.

At this park you can enjoy tide pools, kayaking, hiking, and so much more. Visit at low tide and you will find several tide pools full of little hermet crabs and sea anemones. The pools were decimated in 1995 when an usual low tide brought over 1,200 visitors to the tide pools. This was overwhelming to the eco-system and sea life dwindled. I’ve noticed in recent years much of the sea life has returned. These are great tide pools to explore with youngsters.
In the center of the park stands a totem. On one side the totem is of a Salish Indian woman holding a fish above her head on the other side a mermaid holds the same fish. The story of the totem is about an Indian woman who fell in love with a merman and went to live in the sea with him.
Behind the Indian Mermaid totem you can find a hiking trail that provides some very scenic views of the ocean. Do take care because the hike follows a cliff and it can seem a bit treacherous especially with wee ones.
On the other end of the park you can find a trail to Bowman Bay. It’s about 3.9 miles in total if you follow the entire loop. Bowman Bay has camping facilities and a dock for fishing. The trail extends around Bowman Bay giving expansive views. If you don’t like heights the hiking around Rosario might not be for you. Much of the trail follows the beach cliffs.
