Blackmans Lake

on

Blackmans lake was originally known as Stillaguamish. It was named Blackmans after the Blackman brothers and the mill they operated on the Northeast corner of the lake in the late 1800s. I have been told that the pilings to the North of Hill park are remains of the old mill. The lake isn’t a very big lake 62 acres in total, but it is easy to get to for an afternoon picnic, kayaking, fishing, or letting the kids play.

This fine evening I got home a little early so we loaded up the kayaks and went for a paddle. While paddling around the lake we saw a blue heron, bald eagle, ducks, and geese. You could really tell spring has sprung with all the little ducklings paddling with their mamas. The lily pads were in bloom. I love the way they look floating on the water.

There is a boat launch on the South end of the lake that is great for fishing or to put a kayak or small boat in. It also has a nice dock. Blackmans Lake forbids motorized water crafts. This makes it a great place to learn kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and sail boating. The lake has an average depth of 14 feet which is relatively shallow and due to the absence of motorized craft the water is usually pretty calm. Still do take care the lake does have a bit of a current to it.

The South side has a park as well called Ferguson Park. This park has play equipment, covered picnic area, BBQ, and Frisbee golf.

On the East side of the lake is Hill Park. This park has play equipment, covered picnic spots, BBQ, and two docks for fishing.

While at Ferguson Park we ran into this Dino Crew Entertainment Company practicing. Don’t worry though the handlers had these beasts under control. The kids at the park were loving it!

It was rather entertaining to watch dinosaurs walking around the park. This company does party appearances and things of that nature.
