Rick Steves & Edmonds

This town has a great little downtown area near the beach and ferry. One of my favorite places to visit in Edmonds is the Rick Steves store. This store not only has cool travel merchandise, it’s also a resource. They have a vast library of European travel books and maps you can consult for free. If you’re still not sure about your travel plans book a travel consultant for a small fee. The consultant will walk you through your trip answer all your questions and make suggestions to improve your experience. This is a fantastic place to work on planning a trip abroad.

Even if you’re not planning a trip, you can still enjoy Rick Steves informative courses. The courses vary greatly, take anything from beginning German for travel to packing light to classes that specialize in the country you are traveling to. Rick Steves offers classes on Thursday and Saturday. I personally think that half the fun of a grand adventure is in planning the details. If your not a planner no problem, book one of their tours.img_9427

I will admit I like watching Rick Steves even when I’m not planning a trip. The shows are informative and interesting. They often play on PBS or his website. You can also catch him on his podcast.

Downtown Edmonds also has some pretty great shops to visit and places to eat. You will find several interesting boutiques. We enjoyed a lovely evening eating at Demetri’s Woodstone Taverna. It’s a tapas place. They have a delightful happy hour menu from 3-6pm. The restaurant looks out over the Puget Sound and the ferry dock. The only down side is the train is rather noisey as it comes through every 20 minutes or so on a busy shipping day.

After you’re done with your meal or happy hour, take a romantic walk along the beach. The views are gorgeous, but keep an eye out for the train. It cruises through that area and is very load.
