Lake Shannon outside of Concrete, Wa is a recreational paradise. This massive reservoir of the Baker River stretches 7.5 miles long and over a half mile wide when it is full. All this water is held back by an arch dam built in the 1920s for Puget Sound Energy’s Baker River Hydroelectric Project.
There’s a huge area for launching your boats and other water toys. I didn’t come prepared for swimming this day but waded out a few feet and the water was decently warm and very clear. There were also plenty of free camping spots with fire pits available. There are several hiking trails nearby and the view is definitely grand with The snow covered Mount Baker and monstrous Lake Shannon competing for your attention.
