Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood

“Redrum!” Who can forget Steven King’s iconic thriller The Shining? The Timberline lodge is where this iconic movie was filmed in 1980. The interior of the lodge was shot in studio, but the exterior portions of the movie were filmed at the Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood. As we drove up the famously curving forest lined mountain road I imagined the opening scene as their car winds its way up to the Lodge.

The Lodge was built in 1937 and is gorgeous. The woodwork is amazing. Although, the Lodge has been kept looking antique, it still has all the modern day conveniences of resort life. The center of the Lodge is designed in such a way that it provides a massive fireplace open on both sides on the first and second floors. This is a great destination for both winter and summer skiing. We visited in mid July and found the slopes bustling with skiers and snowboarders.

Behind the Lodge you will find a beautiful field of wild flowers and several hikes to enjoy.

At the base of Mount Hood is the Mount Hood Adventure Park and Ski Bowl. You will find everything from mountain slides to go cart racing to ziplining at this family fun park.
The Mount Hood area is a fantastic place to explore any season of the year. To find more adventures visit our interactive adventure map.
